Food Pantries and Food assistance

Recognizing that many in our communities cannot consistently put food on the table, a number of St. Vincent de Paul Society conferences in our region provide assistance with food, either by operating a food pantry or by providing food as it is needed.

Some conferences also provide meals throughout the year or on a seasonal basis. Refer to the Contact Us page for a listing of conferences and their services to neighbors in need.

Volunteer: St. Vincent de Paul Society conferences offer a wide variety of opportunities for community members to join us in helping neighbors in need. Consider how, working together, we can ease the burden of vulnerable populations and help neighbors on the path to self sufficiency.

Donate items to our Thrift Stores: Our St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Stores always welcome donations of new and gently used items (clothing, home decor, furniture, and much more). Some of these items will be given free of charge to those in need while other items will be sold to the public so that we can assist neighbors in need with utility payments, medical expenses, food, or other forms of assistance. Contact our Stores with questions about how to donate.

Make a financial contribution: Each St. Vincent de Paul Society conference has a team of members who carefully consider how donations will be best used to help neighbors. Contact your local St. Vincent de Paul Society conference to learn more about their efforts to help neighbors.

Consider donating your used vehicle (or your time) to our car ministry: Recognizing that a car often is key to maintaining employment and being self sufficient, our members in the car ministry help individuals locate used vehicles that will be a good investment for the next several years. Our car ministry volunteers also help determine if the cost of car repair is a good investment, given the overall condition of the vehicle. The Lansing Council and individual St. Vincent de Paul Society conferences help with the purchase of used vehicles and the cost of some repairs. The car ministry welcomes donations of cars - those in working condition as well as those that we might repair and provide to a neighbor in need.
